This report was authored by Eliza Strickland, a freelance writer based in New York. She has previously been a contributing writer for the Gambit Weekly in New Orleans and a staff writer for the San Francisco Weekly and the East Bay Express in Oakland, California. A graduate of the Columbia University Journalism School, she currently writes for magazines and websites such as Salon and Wired.

The concluding section was written by Azibuike Akaba, a consultant for I-CBE. He is a former 2005 - 2006 Hewlett Executive Fellow. His current research includes understanding the impacts of climate change and science policy on low-income communities and people of color. He studies the role that environmental factors play in accounting for racial and socioeconomic disparities in health. Prior to this appointment, he was the Principal Investigator of the West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project. He also served as the Leadership Director in the Environment and Health Project for the Rose Foundation.
